How Can Newsletters Fuel Your Growth as a Creator or Brand?

Since time immemorial, people have been saying that newsletters are “dead,” but I’d argue that the golden age of newsletters is only just beginning.

It’s only a relatively recent phenomenon, after all, in which newsletters can serve entirely as the breadwinner for a brand, creator, or business.

Newsletters are a critical part of today’s strategy.

The Hustle and Hubspot teamed up to create “The Future of Newsletters,” and we want to reference some of the data and offer some of our own opinions to help you consider how a newsletter may fuel your growth in the coming year.

The first thing to note, at least in my humble opinion, is that 2025 needs to be a year where you’re considering how you can reach people without relying on algorithms. If Google doesn’t want to play fair, and social media wants to throttle engagement, then running a newsletter, effectively, can be an ideal counterbalance to all that.

In today’s climate, this can mean running your newsletter on a relatively inexpensive (yet powerful) tool like MailerLite, but know you can also leverage the power of built in networks on the likes of Substack or Medium. As they note in this PDF, “the humble newsletter is entering its renaissance era.” I agree.

Bri, my partner, just launched her newsletter on Substack actually, The Weekly Traveller, and a major goal for us this year will be understanding Substack better, and how we can leverage that both in terms of brand building and monetization. For my side, I’m here on Medium, seeing how I can engage with the community here, and sharing insight along the way.

  • One note worth mentioning from the data, for many of the creators and marketers surveyed, LinkedIn Newsletters were a big part of their strategy. We’ve heard mixed things (some creators who adore it, others who would rather be “off platform”), but the last we checked, you can run a newsletter from your brand page as long as you have more than 200 followers, and see how that works for you. Patreon was also still quite popular, especially as they’ve expanded what you can offer your community.
